Key Achievements and Developments in Parivaar in 2023-24
Celebrating 20 years of Parivaar
This year marked the completion of two decades of dedicated and relentless humanitarian service. There were festivities spanning four days at our Bengal instititutions, along with celebrations held at our various locations in Madhya Pradesh. These were marked by cultural programs, reminiscences of longtime Sevavratees, and a joyous time for all.
Great Strides in Parivaar-Hi5 Basketball Program
Basketball in Parivaar has become a primary sport for past 4 years where over 400 children are currently participating actively under rigorous and systematic coaching. We have a pool of players who can compete in tournaments of all age groups starting from Senior (around 19) to Junior Levels (under 12) for both Boys and Girls.
Hi5 Youth Foundation has been playing a very important role in the success of this whole Basketball Program. Currently we have 4 male residential coaches and 3 female residential coaches at Parivaar Bengal institutions. Similarly, there are 4 coaches (2 males and 2 females) at our Sandalpur campus. They are rigorously selecting the children at the base level and rigorously training for competituve performances.
The coaches take two sessions a day for all the children and also conduct special practice sessions during the tournaments.
In the past one-year Basketball Teams of Bengal has participated in 22 different school, district, state and national level tournaments all over the country in which both boys and girls teams have participated in various age groups.
The boys U-14 team won the Junior NBA tournament in 2023 as well as in 2024 where teams from all over India participate.
The girls U-16 team won the Inter-School Girls'’ League Sub junior tournament.
In almost all the tournaments, all our teams consistently qualified among the top 4 teams.
Some of the performances in these tournaments caught they eye of the State Selectors and they selected them to represent the State Team in School Nationals and Youth Nationals. Till date 17 such children have been selected to represent the West Bengal state which allowed them to participate in national level tournaments all over the country.
In last inr year children have travelled to Punjab, Chattisgarh, Bhubaneswar, Uttarakhand, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh and many other places.
Some of the players who have been excellently performing are :
Amir Hembram, 14 year old, has been a standout player for the past one year. He recently won the Most Valuable Player of the tournament in the recently concluded Junior NBA tournament 2024 where teams from all over the country participated. After that his graph went upwards and was selected to represent the state at just 14 years of age.
Prasenjit Soren, 16 year old, is also a very talented player who have fought his way through the ranks of school level tournaments and has been selected to represent the state level and national level tournaments by some scintillating performances in the tournaments he participated. He has captained our team in the senior most category of School Level tournaments.
Similarly, our resident girl, Baishaki Mardi has been a stand-out player among all the girls who have been selected multiple times to represent the state in Youth National tournaments. Baishakhi hails from a remote village of Birbhum district of West Bengal and is just 15 years of age.
Lalita Singh, girl has represented the state in Youth National Tournaments multiple times. She hails from a remote village of Jharkhand, like Amir Hembram.
We are extremely hopeful that the graph of Parivaar’s Basketball Program will remain in the upward trajectory for a long period of time and more talented players will come up the ranks and represent the country in several prestigious tournaments in the near future.
A Remarkable Story of Transformation - Mamoni Singh
Mamoni, a Parivaar resident girl from interior Adivasi village from Jhargram district scores 93 percent in the ICSE Board exams (10th Board) in the session 2023-24.
Her parents work as landless farm labour. Mamoni was enrolled in Parivaar Bengal residential campus in 2015. Due to her high potential in academics, we streamed her into English medium ICSE system in 2019 in Grade 6.
Even the disruption due to the pandemic which severely affected the academic progress of the underclass that is patently handicapped when it comes to all the technology advantages that the more privileged classes naturally enjoy, does not seem to have deterred her in her academic progress.
She has received Dr B.R. Ambedakar Medha Puraskar for scoring the highest percentage of marks in ICSE among the tribals, within the entire district - this district 24 Parganas (South) is more than 1o million in population and second most populous district in the country.
Last year too, one of Parivaar resident boys won this award. It makes it too two years in a row.
She is inclined towards studying commerce and economics and aims to become a Chartered Accountant. Parivaar will fully enable her in the pursuit of her dreams.
